Hockey World Cup a dress rehearsal for Delhi Police before Commonwealth Games

The Hockey World to be held in the national capital later this month will be a "dress rehearsal" for the Delhi Police ahead of the Commonwealth Games in putting in place a security apparatus and planning traffic arrangements for mega event.

Taking no chance, the city police has chalked out an elaborate security and traffic plan for the event which will be held from February 28 to March 13 at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium near India Gate.

"The World Cup is not an event of the magnitude of Commonwealth Games. But we are treating this event as a dress rehearsal for the October event when sportsmen from 71 countries will come. It will check our preparedness," a senior police official said.

Besides India, hockey majors like Pakistan, Germany, Britain and Australia will be among the 13 teams fighting for the trophy.

Over 100 CCTVs will be installed in and around Dhyan Chand stadium during the World Cup to keep a track on the movement of spectators, the official said.

While 75 CCTVs will be fixed cameras, the official said, 30 will be pan-tilt-zoom cameras with night vision and recording facility.

Forty-four CCTVs will be installed on the perimeter, access control points and circulatory areas while 39 will be installed at ground floor and main field of the stadium.

Another 15 CCTVs will be installed at the upper basement of the stadium while the remaining seven will be installed at the heritage building of the stadium where the monitoring station is being set up.

Combined recording of all the cameras will be done, the official said.
